We equip miners with essential Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) skills and knowledge to reduce risks on mining sites. Through training, field demonstrations, and community engagement, PS helps miners adopt mercury-free technologies and modern, environmentally-friendly methods for sustainable production.
In Ghana, the sector is estimated to employ about 1 million direct dependants, providing indirect support to about 4.5 million people (McQuilken and Hilson, 2016). Arthur-Holmes and Yeboah (2025) roughly estimate that there are about 2.5 million Ghanaians who are directly involved in ASM operations, according to the reports by (youth) ASM workers/miners and owners who participated in their research.
According to the World Bank (2025), ASM directly employs at least 45 million people across 80 countries, and a further 270 million are engaged in services related to the sector, bringing its total direct and indirect employment to 315 million people worldwide.
To protect the health, safety, and environment of ASM communities by promoting the use of mercury-free technologies, advancing environmental, safety, and health education, and supporting sustainable and responsible mining practices that safeguard lives, restore mined lands, and build resilient livelihoods. Our mission aligns with the global sustainability goals (e.g. the SDGs).
To create a rural space where ASM contributes to sustainable livelihoods, environmental restoration, and healthy communities free from mercury pollution, health risks and unsafe mining practices.
Mercury-free mining is not just a technology shift; it is a moral obligation’
